Today's Scripture
"In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth and God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:1-2
WORDS OF WISDOM
All things are created by God. We owe our existence to him. Not only is He our creator He is also our sustainer. He created ALL things good, but Satan and sinful man defile what God made good. We as Christians need to recognize Him as our creator, and treat His creation with respect.
DIGGING DEEPER
The Bible starts with the words, "In the beginning". The beginning of what? God has no beginning. He is eternal and existed in eternity past. The human mind has no way to fully grasp eternity past and make any real sense out of it. Only the mind of God can fully grasp that concept. We need a starting point to make sense of anything. God provides that starting point. The beginning is the beginning of His revelation to us. It is the beginning of what He wants us to know and what we need to know. It is the beginning of His creation of the heavens and the earth and the revelation of His plan of salvation for us.
When God created all things, He created things with identifiable characteristics. The phrase "after its kind" is repeated several times indicating that each thing that was created had identifiable characteristics. A peach tree had peaches and peach seeds and made little peach trees. Adam and Eve were created as fully formed and functional human beings with the ability to reproduce. God tasked Adam with naming all the animals. If Adam is going to name them, they had to have identifiable characteristics. Creation did not arise out of a primordial ooze and somehow magically develop into the vast array of plants and animals we see today. God created. He does not tell us exactly how He created because we can"t possibly understand it. There is no comparison to anything we can comprehend or imagine. He created everything out of nothing. He was the only one there at the time, so any person with other ideas can"t possibly know. There is no way to recreate creation and demonstrate how it was done. Only God can create all things out of nothing. God gives us a starting point so that we can make sense out of what we need to know. He does not tell us all things, but He does tell us all we need to know to gain everlasting life with Him.
